KUCHING, Mar 2: The Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions (FCAKSS) has reaffirmed its support for the Sarawak government in defending the State’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Its president Dato Sri Richard Wee Liang Chiat said the Federation views active engagement with the government as a core part of its role in representing the Chinese community in policy discussions.
“The Federation fully supports the Sarawak Government’s position in asserting the rights accorded to the State under MA63.
“We call upon all segments of society including political, economic, cultural and educational organisations to stand together in defending these rights,” he said at the Federation’s 2026 Chinese New Year Gala Dinner held at the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex on Sunday (Mar 1).
Wee explained that the Federation maintains regular communication with the government through memoranda and constructive engagement which has facilitated dialogue and strengthened cooperation among Sarawak’s diverse communities.
He cited specific State policies as examples of this collaborative approach, highlighting the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and the introduction of free tertiary education at selected State-owned institutions, both of which aim to expand educational and professional opportunities for Sarawakians.
Building on these initiatives, Wee encouraged young graduates and professionals, including those working overseas, to contribute their skills and expertise to the State’s development.
He added that the Federation will continue promoting cross-cultural exchanges and engaging the younger generation to support its community programmes. — DayakDaily
