KUCHING (Dec 2): Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) has pledged to expedite its internal investigations and ensure full compensation for four victims who collectively lost RM600,000 in an alleged investment fraud by one of its officers.
DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who facilitated a meeting between the victims and BSN’s management, said the bank gave its assurance that it would take full responsibility for the losses, even if recovering funds from the perpetrator proved difficult.
He added the officer involved had allegedly issued fake ‘BSN official’ receipts to the victims to convince them that their funds were invested.
The four victims had been approached separately in December 2024, August 2025 and September 2025, and persuaded by the officer to withdraw large sums of cash from their BSN accounts for a supposedly investment scheme.
The employee allegedly counted the cash inside the bank before pretending to channel it into the investment.
“BSN has reiterated that legitimate investments involving BSN financial products must only be executed through debit or fund transfers, and cash transactions are strictly prohibited,” Chong said.
Following a surge of complaints after an earlier press statement by Chong, BSN set up a dedicated team at its main branch on Jalan Satok here, which reports directly to BSN headquarters and has been tasked with giving top priority to all genuine fraud-related claims.
“I am glad that BSN’s top management has taken such swift action and hope the victims have their money returned as soon as possible. I will continue monitoring the cases until all refunds are completed,” he said.
Chong also urged any individuals facing similar issues to contact him or his service team for assistance.
When contacted later, the Stampin MP said police investigations on the case were incoming, since the victims had lodged their respective police reports.
Also present at the meeting were BSN Sarawak director Ahmad Fadillah Haris and BSN branch management department head Noreidayu Harun.
