SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch has received a donation of a new ambulance from the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).

Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau witnessed the handover of the ambulance at the MRCS Sibu Branch, here today (Jan 29).

MRCS Sibu Branch chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said with the new ambulance, they could now provide better ambulance services.

“We currently have one old ambulance. With this one from LDS and another one which we will receive in February, we will have three ambulances,” he said.

Chua stressed that with more ambulances, they could help ease the burden of Hospital Sibu in ambulance services.

“We are in a smart partnership with Hospital Sibu in helping in the provision of ambulance services required by the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, MRCS Sibu Vice-chairman, who is also Hospital Sibu deputy director, Dr Rachel Teng, said the branch needs more ambulances with the pressing demand for ambulance services in transporting patients to the hospital.

“During emergencies and disaster times, we need ambulances and with this donation, we are able to play an increasing role in helping the hospital in the transportation of accident victims,” she added.

LDS volunteer Sandy Hall expressed gratitude for the opportunity to assist MRCS Sibu branch with the ambulance donation

“We have been in Malaysia for 17 months, and this is the second ambulance that we have donated. We saw that they (recipients) need an ambulance, so we came in to help.

“The church is also helping Hospital Sibu to improve its infrastructure as well as help a school in Lundu on a similar matter,” he said.
