SARATOK, May 6: The construction of the coastal highway linking the Batang Saribas Bridge 2 to the Roban junction on the Pan Borneo Highway is progressing steadily at 63 per cent, with the RM432 million project on track for full completion by March 2027.

In a TVS news, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, said the project is currently aligned with its scheduled timeline.

He said the Package A5 alignment is a key component of the Sarawak Coastal Road network, which comprises six main sections, and is regarded as the final segment of the overall route.

“The alignment connects Batang Saribas to Roban junction at Batang Lupar and plays a crucial role in strengthening transport connectivity across coastal areas,” he said during a site visit today.

Aidel added that the construction of the new approximately seven-kilometre stretch will provide an alternative route and enhance integration between existing coastal roads and other major road networks in the state.

He also expressed hope that contractors involved would further improve implementation efficiency to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe without delays.

“The opening of the new Batang Saribas Bridge is expected to accelerate progress in the area, making this route a strategic bypass within the Sarawak coastal road network,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri stressed that the construction of a flyover at the main junction in Saratok is urgently needed to address the rising number of accidents.

“As a representative of more than 40,000 residents, I emphasise that safety at this junction must be prioritised by the government,” he said, noting that the proximity of a U-turn to the main junction has increased the risk of collisions.

Krian assemblyman Friday Belik added that the 28.5-kilometre road project will serve as a vital alternative route, easing congestion while unlocking economic opportunities, particularly in the agricultural sector in surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
