KUCHING (Oct 4): A comprehensive training for auxiliary police (AP) officers must continue to enhance their level of professionalism and competence, said Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali.
The Malaysian police training centre (Pulapol) commandant said such training is crucial in managing crises, and to ensure that the AP officers know how to respond to potential risks such as security threats, public disorders and disasters.
“The role of auxiliary police in ensuring public safety and order is crucial, especially with the increasingly complex security challenges.
“You (APs) are not only responsible for maintaining security at your assigned premises but also serve as the frontline in safeguarding the broader community’s peace,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the graduation parade ceremony for the Auxiliary Police Basic Training Course Series 5/2024 at Pulapol, Jalan Borneo Heights here today.
The event saw a total of 212 AP officers, comprising 194 men and 18 women, from 18 various agencies participating in the two-month course that began in August.
While emphasising the vital role of community engagement, he said AP officers together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) can work hand in hand in safety patrol programmes, as well as in information sharing and law enforcement.
“I believe with the training you have received, you will carry out your duties with full responsibility and competence,” he told the graduating AP officers.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of awards to top trainees, with Marcus Ridd being named the course’s overall best trainee, followed by Francis Ganam who was selected as the best academic trainee, and Feliencia Suyu as the best outdoor training trainee.
Also present were Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy head Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dasuki Che Driss and Sarawak Management Department administration officer ACP James Jonathan.
