A K9 unit was brought in to help locate other missing body parts following the discovery of two human limbs on Thursday.
KOTA KINABALU (Feb 13): Police have arrested a man in connection with the brutal murder of a woman, whose body was cut into seven parts and dumped at several locations in Indah Permai, Sepanggar here.
The man in 70s was arrested around 5pm on Thursday during an operation carried out by the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department (CID) together with the Crime Prevention Patrol of Luyang Police Station, Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters CID and Technical Assistance D8, as well as from Bukit Aman.
The arrest was made less than 24 hours after the discovery of the dismembered body parts of the female victim in her 40s by a garbage truck worker at around 6.30am on Thursday.
It is learned that the suspect was identified based on clues obtained during the examination of the victim’s body after the discovery of the head and torso at a nearby disposal point in the vicinity of an Indah Permai supermarket.
This followed the initial discovery of the victim’s hands and leg at a dumpsite.
The clues led police to the suspect’s location and his subsequent arrest on the same day.
Based on initial information, the motive for the murder is believed to be jealousy, which sparked an argument between the suspect and victim.
When contacted, Kota Kinabalu acting police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman confirmed the arrest.
“The suspect, a man in his 70s, has been arrested and, so far, the motive for the murder is believed to be jealousy.
“With the arrest of this main suspect, police have solved this case. However, investigation is still ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.
It is understood that the suspect is currently in hospital for further examination before the remand process is carried out.
