KUCHING (March 20): The Siburan District Council (SDC) is taking a firm stance against illegal dumping seriously and will not hesitate to impose a maximum compound of RM1,000 under the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-Laws 1999.
The council issued the warning following visits on Wednesday to public areas that have been turned into illegal dumping sites behind an enterprise at Mile 18 Kuching-Serian Road, and at Lorong 3C Siburan.
According to SDC, the situation at both the sites has worsened significantly and now requires urgent attention.
“Following the visits, we have carried out clean-up works at the sites and will assess the need for comprehensive and effective follow-up actions,” it said in a statement.
The delegation was led by SDC chairman Ranum Bari, accompanied by secretary Hiu Kee Sing, public health and urban environment committee chairman Solo Saint Djones Kaosz, and Siburan Zone 2 council members Pang Khong Par and Lee Yean Seah.
The council said the affected areas have since been thoroughly cleared to restore cleanliness and safeguard environment well-being.
In line with these efforts, it urged the public to act responsibly by disposing of waste properly and refraining from dumping rubbish in unauthorised areas.
“Do not simply dispose of waste in unauthorised areas,” SDC warned, calling for cooperation from all parties to preserve environmental cleanliness for the well-being of the community.
The council also encouraged the public to report illegal dumping activities by submitting photographs as evidence via [email protected] or by calling 082-862537.
“We will not compromise with any party found to have committed this offence. We appreciate the cooperation and concern of all parties in ensuring that our area remains clean, safe and well-maintained,” it added.
