KUCHING (March 25): Police have called on the public to refrain from speculating on the recent fatal road accident involving a Perodua Alza and a Proton X70 that claimed three lives.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said a thorough probe is being carried out before any conclusions are made.
“This matter is still under investigation. It would be unfair to all parties for us to make any conclusions at this point,” he told reporters after officiating the state police headquarters-level 219th Police Day celebration.
He was asked to comment on netizens questioning why action has yet to be taken against the Alza driver, including allegations that the individual delayed lodging a police report.
Saifullizan urged the public not to be influenced by unverified information, emphasising that the police will act based on the findings of the investigation.
“If there is any wrongdoing, action will definitely be taken. All actions are based on the rule of law, nothing more, nothing less, and everyone will be treated fairly,” he said.
He added the police are working to expedite the investigation in order to put an end to speculation and determine the facts of the case as soon as possible.
“We want to resolve this quickly. Once the investigation is complete, if there is any offence, appropriate action will be taken.”
The crash occurred on March 20 at Kampung Selepong Jinggau along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman.
The impact of the collision caused the Alza to catch fire and be completely destroyed. An adult woman and two boys in the vehicle managed to escape with minor injuries.
However, three occupants of the X70 — an elderly man and two women — were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two boys aged six and four sustained head injuries and were rushed to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment.
