KUCHING (Nov 3): The Collection, Processing and Packaging Centre (CPPC) currently being constructed in Bukit Saban is scheduled for completion in 2026, said Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Deputy Premier said once completed, the CCPC will help local chicken farmers in marketing their products, with the potential for exporting to neighbouring countries.

According to him, the establishment of the CPPC aligns with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development’s initiative – the Village Economic Integrated Project launched in Betong.

He added that the project comprises three programmes namely free-range chicken farming, ginger cultivation and kebaya embroidery handicrafts.

“Since we are establishing this CPPC in Bukit Saban to collect, process and package these products, the centre will be equipped with cold storage facilities,” he was quoted as saying in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report.

He made these remarks during a Meet-the-People session officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Rumah Enteri Lengkoi, Betong yesterday.

Elaborating further, Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, said the CPPC will serve as a platform to process various products from this area including ginger, for export purposes.

He explained that the free-range chicken farming presently holds a high market value of RM28 per kilogramme.

“The market value is strong, with fresh free-range chicken selling at RM28 per kilogramme. We have supported over 900 families in free-range chicken farming by providing them with chicks,” he added.

Regarding the Village Economic Integrated Project, he said this initiative is expected to boost the local economy in line with the Sarawak government’s aim to increase household income by 2030.
