KUCHING (Oct 30): A cross-national couple fulfilled their long-standing wish of securing a Malaysian birth certificate and MyKid for their child, thanks to assistance rendered by DAP Stampin branch.

Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen’s special assistant Michael Kong said the couple received the official documents at the National Registration Department (JPN) Sarawak office here on Monday.

“This moment is a significant milestone for the family as it means their child will now have access to the full rights and benefits of Malaysian citizenship, including equal access to education, healthcare, and social services.

“It also marks the end of a stressful five-year journey for the family, who had faced numerous challenges in obtaining the necessary documents,” he said in a statement.

Kong said the couple had turned to DAP Stampin Service Centre for assistance after facing constant roadblocks and exhausting all other avenues.

“The father of the child is Malaysian, while the mother is an Indonesian citizen. Unfortunately, at the time of the child’s birth, they were unable to meet the requirements set by JPN, as the father could not provide immigration records due to complications in retrieving his passport history.

“This had led to the couple being unable to obtain a Malaysian birth certificate for their child, leaving them in a state of limbo for several years,” he explained.

He said DAP Sarawak understood their frustration and immediately took action to assist the couple.

“Thankfully, we were able to resolve the matter and finally secure the necessary documents for the couple’s child within a month.

“The couple had expressed their deepest gratitude to our team for stepping in and resolving an issue that had been ongoing for five years.

“They had faced multiple failed attempts before, and it is heartwarming to know that we were able to provide the support they needed to finally see a positive outcome,” he said.

Kong said Chong, who is currently attending parliamentary meetings in Kuala Lumpur, had conveyed his happiness upon hearing the good news.

“His sentiments reflect our collective commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of background, receives the support and care they deserve.

“I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to assisting families who face similar challenges. Everyone deserves equal access to essential services, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that no one is overlooked by the system,” he said.
