KUCHING, June 16: Cyber crime, illegal online gambling syndicates and loan shark harassment were among the most pressing community safety concerns raised during a recent courtesy visit by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch to the Samarahan District Police Headquarters, underscoring growing public anxiety over emerging digital threats and social crime issues in the area.

The delegation, led by branch chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, together with committee member Sivanesan Sanmugalingam and other branch representatives, paid the courtesy visit recently to strengthen ties with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and to facilitate direct engagement on local security matters.

During the meeting with officers at the Samarahan District Police Headquarters, the delegation was briefed on the current security landscape in the district.

According to a statement, discussions focused on several key crime concerns affecting residents, including the rising challenges of cybercrime and illegal gambling syndicates operating online, increasing cases of loan shark harassment involving unlicensed moneylenders, as well as ongoing efforts to curb drug-related offences, petty theft, housebreaking incidents, and the need for improved traffic management and road safety in Samarahan.

Sim expressed appreciation to IPD Samarahan for its continuous efforts in maintaining law and order, noting that SUPP Stakan remains committed to acting as a bridge between the community and enforcement authorities.

He said the party would continue channeling public complaints and concerns to the relevant agencies to ensure swift and effective action.

The visit concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to closer cooperation in crime prevention and community safety initiatives, with the shared goal of creating a safer and more secure environment for residents in Stakan and the wider Samarahan district. — DayakDaily
