MIRI (Sept 26): The first notice of Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak Ordinary Convention has been set up by post to 54 DAP branches in Sarawak last week, in accordance with the party’s constitution, said secretary Alan Ling.
According to him, the Ordinary Convention will take place at the Grand Riverine Ballroom by Lok Thian in Kuching, at 10am on Dec 1.
“It will be officiated by the national DAP secretary general Anthony Loke, who is also the Transport Minister,” he disclosed in a press statement yesterday.
Ling, also the secretary of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak, thus called on all representatives and observers to immediately register and confirm their attendance with the DAP Sarawak headquarters in Kuching.
“The important agenda this time will be the election of 15 DAP Sarawak committee members who will lead the party for the next three years. Only members with the status ‘representatives’ will be able to vote,” he pointed out.
Adding on, Ling said the speaker for the convention will be Johor assemblyman Andrew Chen, and that he will be assisted by DAP Sabah secretary Liau Fui Fui as the returning officer for the election.
“The second notice will be issued to the delegates at the end of October, and we hope to receive encouraging response from our party members to attend this convention in full force,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ling said DAP Sarawak has proven its steadfastness since starting its political struggle in 1978, and the party currently has two state assemblymen and five MPs, as well as one senator in the Dewan Negara.
“In the 2026 PRN (state election), DAP Sarawak will fight for its targeted seats because this is a democratic right that should be given to the voters to make a choice,” he said.
Ling added that although DAP is also the ruling party alongside Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) at the federal level, DAP will continue to play its role as the opposition in Sarawak.
“We are still with the people. Even though the results of the last election may not have been satisfactory, so far in DAP’s political struggle in Sarawak, the word ‘surrender’ does not exist in the thoughts of DAP Sarawak leaders and grassroots level,” he added.
