KOTA KINABALU (Jan 14): Sabah Democratic Action Party (Dapsy Sabah) has expressed serious concern over the appointment of former assemblyman Dr Yusof Yacob to a Sabah government-linked company (GLC), Sabah Development Berhad.
In a statement, Dapsy Sabah Chief Chan Loong Wei urged the Sabah government and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to reconsider the appointment, noting that Dr Yusof is currently facing an ongoing court case.
“Appointing an individual with an active court case to a GLC board raises serious concerns over integrity, public trust, and the credibility of the government,” he said.
Chan pointed out that the appointment does not align with the aspirations expressed by the Chief Minister himself.
He noted that in an earlier statement, the Chief Minister had emphasised the need to restructure Sabah’s GLCs to strengthen corporate governance and accountability, inject new leadership, and ensure that GLCs are managed by competent, professional, and results-oriented individuals in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 agenda.
“The Chief Minister has repeatedly stressed that GLCs should be led by competent and credible leadership to serve as effective economic catalysts for the people and the state. This appointment does not reflect those aspirations,” Chan said.
He added that appointing individuals who are facing ongoing court cases would only erode public confidence and raise questions about the government’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
Dapsy Sabah reiterated that new appointments to GLCs should not involve individuals who have been convicted in court or are currently facing serious legal proceedings, and urged the Sabah government to remain accountable to the people of Sabah.
“Reform must be reflected through action. Otherwise, such appointments will only undermine public trust and the integrity of the administration,” he said.
