KUCHING (Jan 15): The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Sarawak has lodged a police report calling for an immediate investigation into RM1 million allegedly received by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Dapsy Sarawak secretary George Lam noted that Najib was convicted on 25 charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case by the High Court on Dec 26 last year, describing it as an “undeniable, documented judicial fact”.
“Against such a clear and established judicial background, SUPP’s receipt of RM1 million from Najib who has been fully convicted by the courts; cannot be justified nor can it be casually dismissed as a mere political donation,” he said in a statement.
He questioned the source of the RM1 million, asking whether it involved misuse of power, money laundering, or other illegal activities, and urged SUPP to clarify if the funds were connected to 1MDB.
Lam said political donations or transactions involving convicted individuals should not be ignored, stressing that enforcement agencies must act independently to uphold the law and ensure transparency.
“SUPP should not remain silent or attempt to divert public attention on this subject matter. The fight against corruption and the pursuit of clean politics must never be subject to double standards.
“Any political party or individual involved in financial dealings with a person, who has been convicted of corruption by the courts must be subjected to full legal and public scrutiny,” he said.
He called for the police and other authorities to thoroughly investigate and protect the integrity of Sarawak’s political landscape.
Accompanying Lam to lodge the report were Dapsy Sarawak organising secretary Chin Fang Chi and committee member Chong Hong Hien.
On Jan 12, DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said they were considering lodging a police report against SUPP over its alleged receipt of funds linked to 1MDB.
The Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman said this move aimed to send a clear message that government funds must not be used to finance political parties.
