KUCHING (Aug 24): The auspicious Kuching Heritage Lights and Floral Festival 2024 at the Kuching Waterfront here has brought much-awaited cheer for the locals and tourists alike.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) as the event’s organiser said the festival was to complement the Kuching Festival and as part of its drive towards creating a green city.

“The floral festival is synonymous with the beauty of Kuching’s landscape, particularly in north Kuching,” said DBKU in a statement.

“In addition to enhancing the vibrancy of Kuching as one of the garden cities in the region, it also aims to showcase the beauty of the city through captivating lights and floral decorations, thus, making it a tourist attraction.”

The festival’s opening ceremony at Pangkalan Sapi here on Friday was launched by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, with the presence of deputy minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Kuching North mayor Hilmy Othman.

The festival was kicked off with a ‘Gendang Nopeng’ showcase on Aug 22, followed by the ‘Rhythm of The Night’ performance by the Potress Group on Aug 23.

The Heritage Rhythm Night Concert tonight will feature special performances by Sarawakian talents including Claudia Geres, Hazmel, Gabriel Fairuz, and Safar Ghaffar.

DBKU, thus, called upon the public to take a stroll along the Kuching Waterfront to enjoy the beautiful blooms and vibrant lights, while visiting the exhibition booths and food stalls.

“There will also be a terrarium competition, treasure hunt activities, flower arrangement and handicrafts workshop, and the ‘Floral and Fashion’ shows,” it said.
