KUCHING (October 4): The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) remains fully committed to supporting international sporting events and is ready to assist any sports association in ensuring the smooth organisation of their tournaments, said Datuk Bandar Hilmy Othman.

Referring to the TYT Cup Muay Thai Championships 2024 happening from Oct 4 to 6 at the Kuching Waterfront Amphitheatre, he highlighted how events like this not only boost the tourism sector but also attract an influx of international visitors, benefiting the hospitality and transport industries.

“DBKU is also deeply committed to promoting sports within the community, recognising its vital role in fostering a healthy and active society.

“We organise several annual sports events ourselves, including the Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge, the Siol Trail Run, and many more,” he said during the TYT Cup Muay Thai Championships 2024 introductory session last night.

Hilmy also lauded the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) for organising the championship, calling it a fantastic initiative for both athlete development and for opening doors of opportunity to Sarawak’s youth.

“More than 200 participants, representing clubs from across Malaysia, have come together in Kuching for this tournament.

“This year’s edition also welcomes 30 international fighters from Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, and Iran.

“I’ve been informed that they’ll be competing in a range of categories, from muaysport to semi-pro and pro, and we’re in for some intense and thrilling matches,” he said.

Also present were DBKU Deputy Director of Community Services Rudzaimier Malek and PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim.
