KUCHING, Dec 23: Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik credited teamwork for his 37 years of dedicated service in the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) as he prepares to hand over his duties to permanent secretary of the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua.

Buckland was honoured by the units under his supervision at a ‘Journey of Gratitude Night’ dinner, held in appreciation of his service ahead of his retirement on Dec 31.

Speaking at the event, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sarawak government, particularly Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, for the opportunity to serve the State for nearly four decades.

He also extended his appreciation to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who chairs the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), where Buckland serves as deputy chairman.

“I would also like to thank Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki for the opportunity to work together as one team under the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) One Team,” he said during the dinner, which was officiated by acting Sarawak Secretary Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel at a leading hotel on Monday (Dec 22).

Buckland acknowledged the support and cooperation of his colleagues, including Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) Datu Hii Chang Kee, as well as the heads of departments under his purview: the Administration Unit, Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU), Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), Sarawak Council for Native Customs and Traditions (MAIS), Native Courts of Sarawak, and Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).

“I could not have carried out my responsibilities on my own. That’s why I am deeply grateful to all of you for your dedication and commitment. Only through teamwork are we able to successfully fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to us,” he said.

Among those present at the event were Chief Registrar of the Native Courts of Sarawak Datu Jonathan Lugoh, Administration Unit director Rusmaliza Mat Darus, ILMU director Richard Lon, UKPS director Abdul Wahab Rahim, MAIS secretary Mackos Sibong and other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
