SELANGAU: The Selangau Health Clinic (KK) Dialysis Centre under the Sibu Hospital, which is set to commence operations in mid-year, will bring significant benefits to the rural community.

Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to provide amenities similar to urban areas for rural communities.

He explained that initially, only six dialysis machines will be installed, with plans to increase it to 13 machines according to the centre’s capacity.

“We anticipate the centre to commence operations in the middle of this year, and the acquisition process for six dialysis machines is currently underway.

“This is one of the government’s steps to assist rural communities as, until now, they have lacked access to dialysis services, especially in rural and inland areas,” he said after visiting the clinic here recently.

The Sibuti MP added that the Sarawak State Health Department has identified the need to establish an Emergency Unit and X-Ray services at KK Selangau, considering the increased traffic and activity on the Pan Borneo route.

“I will consider these matters, and as is customary in Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) facilities, we will discuss asset acquisitions,” he added.

Also present were Selangau MP Edwin Banta and the Health Officer for Sibu Division Dr Teh Jo Hun.
