MIRI (Nov 2): Miri Tua Pek Kong Temple held a consecration ceremony for its newly completed double golden dragon statues here yesterday.

Led by Master Huang Xiao Quan of Singapore’s Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple, the ceremony commenced with a prayer ritual, followed by the eye-dotting ceremony at around 10.30am performed by the state Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

In his remarks, Lee commended the temple’s management for the completion of the double dragons, which symbolises good luck, protection and strong leadership.

“In recent years, the temple has undergone a lot of improvements, whereby all these are made possible with the support from the communities within and outside of Miri,” said the Senadin assemblyman.

“In fact, every year we have discussed on how to improve the temple to become a better place of worship and also as tourist attraction.

“After much effort from the Sarawak government and the temple’s devotees, we get to enjoy the fruit today,” he added.

Lee also extended his appreciation to the state government through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for funding over RM1 million for the temple’s upgrading project.

The towering double dragon sculptures at the temple were built at the cost of RM800,000.

Also present to witness the ceremony were deputy minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting; Miri Chinese Charitable Trust Board chairman and community leader Temenggong Yong Vui Seng; and Chaw Zhe Jian who represented Miri MP Chiew Choon Man.
