BINTULU (Jan 18): Flood victims who had been accommodated at the temporary evacuation centres (PPS) at the Sebauh Community Hall and the SMK Sebauh Hall have been given the all-clear to return home following the full recovery of conditions in the affected areas yesterday.

Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the situation highlighted the effectiveness of strong collaboration between various agencies and the local community in handling the recent floods in Sebauh.

He conveyed his appreciation to the Disaster Management Committees of the Bintulu and Miri divisions, led by the respective Residents and District Officers, as well as officers from the Resident’s and District Offices, community leaders, village heads, and residents of Kemena state constituency, including Sebauh, Suai and Niah.

“The strong commitment and spirit of unity demonstrated by all parties played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and welfare of flood victims throughout the crisis period,” he said.

The Kemena assemblyman also voiced regret over the actions of a small number of individuals who attempted to take advantage of the challenging situation.

He pointed out that the Sarawak government’s priority remains the well-being of the people.

Dr Rundi also apologised for any shortcomings in the delivery of aid and services, noting that the experience would be used to enhance preparedness and further strengthen disaster management measures in the future.
