KUCHING (Oct 29): Sarawak can learn much from dragon and lion dance competitions in terms of building strong teamwork and unity. This is according to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“I noticed that in this competition all the teams displayed good teamwork where every member knew and played their respective roles well.
“In any competition, it is very important that you must have good teamwork to win because not a single person can win the competition,” he said at the closing of the Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup at Stadium Perpaduan on Sunday.
The competition attracted more than 400 participants representing 41 teams from Vietnam, China, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said such a team spirit is what Sarawak can learn in nation-building.
“If every Sarawakian can play his or her role well, Sarawak will be strong and prosperous,” he pointed out.
“This is not only about dragon and lion dance competition but also about Sarawak’s nation-building and the Sarawak brand in the making.
“In Sarawak, irregardless of race and relgion, we come together and this is our Sarawak values,” he pointed out.
Also present were Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Dragon and Lion Dance Federation of Malaysia secretary Yong Kheng Chien, Chinese Martial Arts Association (CMAA) Sarawak president Chester Lim and advisor Kapitan Tan Kun Gee.
