Dr Sim: Onus on all religious leaders in maintaining harmony

BINTULU (July 20): All religious leaders play an important role in maintaining racial harmony, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Hee also pointed out that peace and unity remain the main agenda of the state government, under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“These (peace and unity) are important strengths for Sarawak to remain harmonious and progressive.

“As such, the GPS government places great emphasis on the understanding and harmony among various races in the state,” he said at the ‘Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration’ at Bintulu Civic Centre here today, held in connection with Sarawak Day 2024.

Adding on, Dr Sim said the GPS, under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, had continuously been prioritising unity among its people to ensure peace would always be upheld.

“The state government’s commitment to maintaining racial harmony can be seen in Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.

“It emphasises three main pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability,” he said.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala; Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon; Deputy State Secretaries Datu Buckland Bangik and Datu Hii Chang Kee; and Unifor director Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau.
