KUCHING (Oct 31): Literacy, community engagement, and inclusivity are key roles in Sarawak’s development as the state expands its educational access and resources, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“This is about Sarawak’s nation-building, and that is why we are here together for it,” he said in his speech at the launching of the Sarawak Bookfair and Authors Festival 2024 at The Hills here yesterday.
Citing the recent launch of Sustainability Blueprint by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Dr Sim called for greater involvement from all Sarawakians in this transition.
“We need to understand this blueprint as it represents Sarawak’s transition to green economy and energy,” said Dr Sim, who is also the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister.
Meanwhile, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak chief executive officer Japri Bujang Masli affirmed the event’s commitment to ensuring accessibility of knowledge and information to all.
“We hope this event will improve the knowledge capacity of our community, helping us achieve our aspiration towards a developed, high-income state by 2030,” Japri said.
With over 60 exhibitors and a diverse range of lined-up activities, the Sarawak Bookfair and Authors Festival 2024 runs until November 3 and aims to foster a culture of reading and learning among Sarawakians.
Also present at the event were Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Board of Management chairman Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen; Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) director-general Dr Hazami Jahari; and DBP Board of Governors member Dr Jeniri Amir.
