SIBU (Jan 26): Sarawak has become a model for other states in Malaysia due to its political unity, stability, and people-centric approach to governance, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said Sarawak’s success today was not solely based on wealth but on how its resources were effectively managed for the development and wellbeing of the people.
“The political stability and the close cooperation between the state government’s component parties have enabled Sarawak to accelerate the implementation of development while strengthening investor and public confidence,” he said when officiating the opening of the new Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch office at Jalan Aman here yesterday.
The SUPP president also cited the achievements of a local company, Twin Catalyst, which made history by winning the InnoBase Award with a RM600,000 prize and Sarawak’s medical specialists who successfully performed the country’s first Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic spine surgery.
“These achievements show that Sarawak is progressing not only in physical development, but also in innovation, education and healthcare services.
“Sarawak today is vastly different from a decade ago and is no longer underestimated, but increasingly viewed as a reference point. However, the next five years will be critical (for Sarawak) and continued success will depend on maintaining unity and political stability to achieve the Sarawak Vision 2030,” he said.
On the new SUPP Dudong office, he described it as a symbol of SUPP’s commitment to serve the people at all times and not just during election periods.
He also expressed his appreciation to SUPP Dudong leaders and party machinery for their continued efforts.
Among those present were SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong, SUPP Dudong advisor Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting.
