KUCHING (Dec 6): Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has projected that Sarawak’s revenue will far surpass RM15 billion by the year 2030.
Highlighting the state’s strong financial performance, Dr Sim compared Sarawak’s revenue with that of other states.
“Johor has just presented the largest budget in its history at RM2.5 billion. We are at RM14.1 billion, depending on oil and gas prices — otherwise it could be RM15.8 billion.
“Selangor has also announced its largest budget at RM3.23 billion. By 2030, I expect our figures to be significantly higher,” he said during the Sarawak Flour Mill 30-Year Anniversary Celebration and Staff Night 2025 here on Friday.
Dr Sim also underscored Sarawak’s economic potential, particularly in the oil and gas sector, noting the state’s vast coastal advantage.
“Brunei has a very short coastline, yet it is one of the richest countries in the world. Sarawak’s coastline is 20 times longer,” he said, adding that without Sarawak’s resources, Malaysia would be in a difficult financial position.
Looking ahead, he said the state’s infrastructure development would continue to expand by 2030, with further expansion in the following years.
In this regard, he urged Sarawakians to play their part in strengthening the state as it continues to chart its own development path following political shifts at the federal level since 2018.
“Since the Malaysian government changed, Sarawak was previously part of the coalition. When the coalition shifted, we became the opposition, and some predicted Sarawak would be bankrupt within three years.
“Today, not only are we not bankrupt — we are richer than ever,” he said.
