SIBU(March 7): The number of drug-related arrests in Mukah district recorded a significant increase during the first three months of this year, with 30 suspects detained between January and March 2026 compared to 15 arrests during the same period last year.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the figure represented an increase of 15 arrests, indicating intensified enforcement efforts by the district police.
“During the same period this year, police seized a total of 18.90 grammes of methamphetamine, also known as syabu, and 228 Nosphan pills.
“In comparison, 25.13 grammes of methamphetamine were seized between January and March last year,” he said when contacted on Saturday.
According to him, only two types of drugs have been detected and seized in Mukah district so far.
“Currently, the drugs seized in Mukah are limited to methamphetamine (syabu) and Nosphan pills,” he explained.
Muhamad Rizal added that police have yet to detect any new trends in drug distribution methods such as through social media or courier services.
“As of March this year, the distribution of drugs by pushers in Mukah is still mainly carried out through hand-to-hand transactions,” he said.
To curb drug trafficking activities, he said the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD) has taken several proactive measures.
Among them are directing the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division to intensify intelligence gathering and information collection, as well as conducting more frequent and effective operations.
“Other divisions and branches are also assisting in obtaining information related to drug abuse activities, including intelligence gathered from members of the public, individuals and other district police headquarters.
“We are also strengthening and expediting investigation processes so that drug offenders can be charged in court quickly and receive appropriate punishment for their offences,” he added.
