KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has dismissed the ‘Dubai Move’ as a ‘waste of time’, asserting that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) remains uninterested in partaking in any political manoeuvring.

Expressing shock at being associated with the ‘Dubai Move’ and the alleged offer of the prime minister post, Abang Johari firmly declined involvement, adding that he was content with his role as Sarawak Premier without interest in the endless political tussle for the national prime minister position.

He stressed that GPS’ stance is to stabilise the Malaysian Government to ensure competitiveness against neighbouring countries.

“For us in Sarawak, whether it’s the ‘Monaco Move’ or ‘London Move,’ our focus is on improving the economic situation.

“Thanks to our focus, our economy is strong, and the state income is increasing,” he said during a press conference after a walkabout at Ibu Pertiwi Square today (Jan 1).

Abang Johari added that political turmoil in the country will result in a lack of interest in investing, leading to fewer job opportunities and ultimately affecting the people.

He also hinted at positive developments for Sarawak in 2024, with good news expected to be revealed in the coming months.

Previously, the Malay daily Berita Harian reported on the ‘Dubai Move,’ alleging a plot to topple Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Unity Government orchestrated by Perikatan Nasional leaders during their holiday in the United Arab Emirates.

The alleged offer included the position of prime minister to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leaders and greater autonomy, along with 20% oil revenue royalties to Sarawak.
