KUCHING, 15 Oct: Member of the Stakan State Legislative Assembly (ADUN), Datuk Hamzah Brahim proposed implementing a special subsidized driver's license assistance program for B40 target groups in Sarawak.
He said it was important to guide young people's mobility with a driver's license.
"This assistance is critical to helping our young people have a valid driver's license, thus opening up more jobs and businesses in the transport sector or gig economy", he said.
He said so while discussing Sarawak Budget 2027 at the 19th Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) Conference today.
According to him, owning licenses is important to allow them not to be excluded from enjoying various government assistance initiatives such as Budi95 and Budi Diesel.
"This is because both of these grants require the holder of a valid driver's license to register and take advantage of the grant", he said.
Meanwhile, Hamzah recommended strengthening the road pavement and control mechanism under the approval requirements at the level of Local Authorities (PBT) as well as Public Works Department (JKR).
"Strengthening the terms of this collateral is essential to ensure that private developers have full accountability for immediate restoration of any public roads or parks affected by heavy machinery movement during construction.
"This proactive monitoring measure not only preserves the integrity of State Government's public assets, but also ensures that the rapid growth of the real estate sector goes hand-in-hand with the comfort, safety and well-being of Stakans", he explained. - TVS
