Eight shop units collapse in Sungai Merah, no victims reported

KUCHING, Feb 13: A row of eight shop units collapsed early this morning at Jalan Pahlawan in Sungai Merah, prompting an emergency response from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

According to Bomba, a call was received at 2.46am, personnel from the Sungai Merah station were deployed.

Upon conducting a size-up together with the police, authorities confirmed that the incident involved a row of eight shop lots at No. 7A4, Jalan Pahlawan.

Search operations were immediately carried out to determine whether anyone was trapped in the rubble. Police also contacted each of the shop owners to verify that no individuals were inside the premises at the time of the collapse.

Surface searches conducted at the site found no victims involved in the incident.

The cause of the collapse and the extent of losses are currently under investigation. — DayakDaily
