KUCHING (March 13): Inclusivity and creativity prevailed at the recent Embrace 4.0 programme, organised by the Padawan Chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI).

Held at the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) Kuching, the session brought together some 50 children, aged between seven and 18, from different backgrounds including those from Persatuan D’wira and Dyslexia Association of Sarawak.

“Embrace 4.0 aims to empower young individuals by embracing their creativity, and also to foster the spirit of inclusivity in children from different communities, including those with learning differences and those from underprivileged backgrounds.

“This initiative is meant to create a safe and supportive space where children can express themselves freely, build confidence and enjoy meaningful activities together,” said JCI Padawan president Gary Ong.

According to him, the organisation typically partners with different groups to support and empower their causes.

“Previously, we partnered with Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) to empower women, local entrepreneurs and local brands through a fashion show that highlighted local designers.

“We have also worked with the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) focusing on animal welfare, including caring for pets and organising free rabies vaccination programmes.

“This time, our focus is on children. We want to provide them with some free time to relax and enjoy themselves through various activities while also learning new skills in a fun and safe environment,” he added.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who officiated at the opening ceremony, acknowledged and highlighted the challenges faced by certain groups of children in society, particularly the undocumented children.

Drawing from his past experience in handling such cases, the elected representative shared with those attending his legal insights and advice regarding the issue.

Embrace 4.0 highlights creativity, and the spirit of inclusivity in children from different communities and backgrounds.

“To JCI Padawan, do continue playing an active role in assisting these communities through community-driven initiatives and outreach efforts,” said Yap in his brief remark.

Meanwhile, the activities run during Embrace 4.0 included arts and craft workshops, storytelling sessions and a pen-pal programme.

There was also an open mic session, opening opportunities for the young participants to sing, dance, perform poetry or even showcase magic.
