KUCHING (Jan 22): More successful corporations and entrepreneurs in Sarawak and across the country should emulate the example set by KTS Group in actively supporting Chinese education and other charitable causes, said Datuk Dr Ngu Piew Seng.

The Sri Aman and Betong Divisions Chinese Associations president said the sustainable development of Chinese education requires the collective support of all sectors of society.

“Only through close collaboration between the corporate sector and the education community and the principle of ‘from society, for society’ can a better educational environment be created for future generations and more talents cultivated for the nation,” he said in a statement.

In welcoming KTS Group’s recent allocation of RM3 million in support of Chinese education in Sarawak, Ngu said the contribution was not merely substantial financial assistance but also a meaningful affirmation of the selfless dedication of Chinese educationists, and a commendable example of corporate social responsibility.

“Chinese independent secondary schools have long played on irreplaceable role in preserving Chinese culture and nurturing talents, despite operating with relatively limited resources.

“Teachers in these schools have remained steadfast and dedicated, working tirelessly behind the scenes, and their contributions deserve broader recognition and support.

“The generous donation by KTS Group, particularly the initiative to directly benefit teachers through a one-month bonus, has truly warmed the hearts of educators, allowing them to feel seen, understood, and appreciated,” he said, adding that the gesture is of great significance in boosting morale among teachers and strengthening the foundation of Chinese education.

Ngu, who is also Simanggang Chinese Chamber of Commerce president, also paid tribute to KTS Group founding managing director, the late Dato Sri Dr Lau Hui Kang, who devoted his life to the development of Chinese education.

He said the Lau family and their enterprise have consistently supported educational causes through concrete actions, earning deep respect from the community.

“This latest act of generosity represents a continuation and embodiment of Dr Lau’s spirit of valuing education and giving back to society.

“As a successful enterprise, KTS Group has not only created economic value, but has also proactively fulfilled its social responsibilities by caring for education. Its vision and compassion serve as an example worthy of emulation by all corporations,” he said.

He wished KTS Group continued prosperity and success as it continues to make even greater contributions to social progress and development.

On Monday, KTS Group announced an allocation of RM3 million in total to be distributed to Chinese independent secondary schools statewide.

Of this, RM2 million is to be distributed as a one-month bonus for teachers of these schools, while RM1 million is for the Sarawak United Association of Private Chinese Secondary Schools Management Board.

The allocation was announced during a commemorative ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Lau’s passing.
