A former director of Sarawak Consolidated Industries Berhad (SCIB) claimed trial in the sessions court today to a charge of submitting a false statement to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
Rosland Othman, 52, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before judge Azrul Darus.
According to the charge, Rosland, as a director of SCIB, allegedly caused the company to furnish a false statement to Bursa Malaysia on Sept 30, 2021.
The alleged false statement was contained in the company’s interim financial report on consolidated results for the quarter ended June 30, 2021.
The offence is alleged to have been committed at Bursa Malaysia’s premises at Exchange Square, Bukit Kewangan.
The charge was framed under Section 369(b)(B) read together with Section 367(1) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.
If convicted, Rosland faces imprisonment of up to 10 years and may also be fined up to RM3 million.
The court allowed the accused bail of RM500,000 with one surety and ordered that he surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.
He was also required to report to the Securities Commission once a month.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Hashley Tajudin sought bail at RM1 million, citing the seriousness of the offence.
However, defence counsel S Shastidaran sought a lower amount, saying the accused had to support his family, including seven children.
He also told the court that his client is a bankrupt and suffers from several medical conditions, including diabetes, glaucoma and nerve pain.
The court fixed May 7 for case management.
