KUCHING, May 17: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will officially leave Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) following their takeover of Parti Bersama Malaysia, which was announced today in Petaling Jaya.

In a news report by The Star, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, who are the MPs for Pandan and Setiawangsa respectively, will also submit a letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul tomorrow to vacate their seats.

The duo will also submit their resignation letters to PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh.

They will officially join Parti Bersama Malaysia on Tuesday (May 19).

According to the report, Rafizi said the decision was driven by a desire to preserve political idealism for the future, rather than personal ambition.

“Nik, myself, and our colleagues are not perfect; we have many flaws and shortcomings.

“However, we have been entrusted to carry the torch of this idealism for as long as we have the strength, so that one day we can pass this torch to the next generation,” said Rafizi.

Rafizi has served as the Economy Minister, from which he resigned on June 17, 2025, following his defeat in the PKR vice-presidency race that same year.

As for Nik Nazmi, he resigned from his position as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment after he was defeated in his bid for re-election as Setiawangsa PKR division chief.

Rafizi has been with PKR for nearly 27 years, while Nik Nazmi joined PKR in the late 1990s. — DayakDaily
