KUCHING, July 10: A former police officer with corporal rank, involved in two rape cases and three molestation cases in 2006, is among 55 persons on the police’s wanted list.

Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said that a manhunt was launched immediately after a woman lodged a report during that time, but investigations revealed that the suspect had fled.

“Measures have been taken at all entry points in Sarawak and Malaysia’s borders to trace the suspect. He was dismissed from the police force in 2013,” he told a press conference at the Kuching District Police headquarters (IPD) Kuching today.

The wanted former corporal is identified at Juwanda Ranu Suut.

On the wanted persons list, Ahsmon pointed out, are also 20 scammers who remain at large and are believed to be actively engaged in various fraudulent activities.

“Additionally, 20 individuals are crucial to our investigations into drug-related activities. There is also one foreign woman who had been blacklisted for aggravated assault,” he said, adding that warrants of arrest have been issued for all 55 suspects.

The police have urged the public to provide any information about these suspects via phone call or email or by visiting the nearest police stations.

“Your information will be kept confidential,” Ahsmon assured.

Regarding fraud cases related to e-commerce, Ahsmon said the police recently arrested a 30-year-old local man in connection with four cases involving online sales of electrical products, smartphones, and video gaming.

“More importantly, a total of 185 e-commerce scam cases have been detected so far, resulting in a loss of RM4.8 million. A total of 49 investigation papers have been initiated,” he said.

Ahsmon advised the public to exercise caution when making online purchases by verifying the authenticity of advertisements with relevant authorities or agencies before conducting any monetary transactions. — DayakDaily
