KUCHING, Mar 16: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has applied to return to Umno, three years after being sacked by the party.

In a Facebook post today, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that during a visit from the former health minister and Rembau MP, he received a letter of appeal from Khairy seeking to return to the party.

Ahmad Zahid said he accepted the application, which will be forwarded to the Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee for review and consideration.

“This is among the true meanings of Rumah Bangsa; an effort to reunite those who were once separated, to bring closer those who had grown distant, and to gather us again as one large family in the struggle.

“What matters most is finding a path towards unity, rather than allowing division to continue separating us,” he said.

Rumah Bangsa is an initiative which allows former members to return to the party without conditions.

Meanwhile, on Instagram today, Khairy—who is more commonly known as ‘KJ’—expressed appreciation to Ahmad Zahid for accepting his application and hoped that the party and Rumah Bangsa committee would consider his request.

He said he has not asked for any demands or conditions, except for the opportunity to serve the party at a time when the nation’s politics faces uncertainty.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Khairy was sacked from Umno in 2023 for allegedly breaching party discipline during the 2022 general election.

It was reported that Khairy had been openly critical of Ahmad Zahid in the lead-up to the elections, especially after Barisan Nasional (BN) fielded him to contest the urban Pakatan Harapan (PH) stronghold of Sungai Buloh, where he lost to R. Ramanan by 2,693 votes. — DayakDaily
