KUCHING, May 5: Police are investigating a report lodged over a Facebook video titled “Sarawak Buta Sejarah”, following allegations that the content misrepresents Sarawak’s historical narrative.

In a recent statement, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central chairman Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie said he attended the Sibu Central Police Station today with a senator to assist in an ongoing probe linked to a report lodged against Facebook page “Berita 757”, which uploaded the video on March 1, 2026.

He said he was there to provide clarification to assist authorities in their probe.

“We object to the video title ‘Sarawak Buta Sejarah’ as it is condescending and disrespectful to Sarawakians. It implies a lack of understanding of our State’s historical background,” he said.

The group further alleged that the video contained misleading and distorted interpretations of Sarawak’s history, stressing that historical facts must be presented accurately and responsibly.

SUPP Youth Central outlined Sarawak’s historical governance under the Brooke administration, including its administrative structure, judiciary, currency, armed forces, flag and anthem, as well as the Council Negri, which comprised local community representatives alongside appointed officials.

It also referenced Sarawak’s constitutional development in 1941 under Charles Vyner Brooke, which introduced the Nine Cardinal Principles, and its subsequent transition in 1946 to a British Crown Colony following a decision by the Council Negri (now known as the State Legislative Assembly or DUN) after the Second World War.

The statement further cited historical references relating to Sarawak’s continental shelf and legal developments, including colonial-era orders and international law conventions.

“We remain committed to cooperating fully with the authorities and to promoting respectful and fact-based discourse on Sarawak’s history and identity,” he added. — DayakDaily
