Family of Sarawakian furniture magnate Liew Nyen Sen fulfils final wishes with donations to 21 organisations

KUCHING (March 3): The family of the late furniture magnate Liew Nyen Sen has made donations to 21 organisations in accordance with his final wishes.

The donations seek to support the initiatives and activities carried out by the associations.

During the funeral service at Liew’s Jalan Hup Kee residence, his sons John and Andy Zhi Hui, presented donations to the Kuching, Kota Samarahan, and Serian Pan Chern Liew Clan Association as well as to its Senior, Youth, and Women’s sections.

Donations also went to the Sarawak Ku-Cherng Association; SJK Chung Hua Sungai Lubak management board; Sarawak Furniture Industry Association; Chin Kiun Thai Ti Dan Tai Pak Kung Kuching Temple management committee; Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng; Lions Nursing Home; Pertubuhan Tarian Naga Singa Hill Kuching; Sarawak Cheshire Home; management committees of Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3, and 4; and Kuching Chung Hua Primary School No. 1-6.

Other recipients were Kuching Simpang Tiga Area Community Association; Sarawak Hakka Community Association; Kuching Old Market Community Association; Sarawak Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Association; Shin Teck Eng Khon Temple management committee; Vajrayana Buddhist Centre (Sakya Chosphel Ling); Wat Somdet Sangkharat Sukkhaithuen in Kuching; and Sakya Tsechen Khakyab Ling in Kuching.

Following the funeral, the cortege moved to Liew’s final resting place at Nirvana Memorial Park on Jalan Kuching-Bau in Siniawan.

Liew was the founder and managing director of Liew Shin Huat Furniture Trading Sdn Bhd, Far East Furniture Co, Expo Furniture Town, and Beetex Interior Furnishing Centre Sdn Bhd.

Rooted in humble beginnings, Liew, who was the eldest of seven siblings, assumed the responsibility of supporting his family immediately after completing his Primary 6 education.

He began as an apprentice, persevering through hardship to support his household.

Guided by his entrepreneurial spirit, he founded a retail furniture business on Ewe Hai Street, which thrived through years of dedication and prudent management.

He founded Liew Shin Huat Furniture Trading Co Sdn Bhd in 1970, later expanding into manufacturing and large-scale exhibitions.

Liew passed away peacefully on Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

A white hearse leads the cortege to Nirvana Memorial Park.
