KUCHING, May 5: A 19-year-old suspect has surrendered to police over a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 56-year-old cyclist along Jalan Stutong here last week.
Kuching District Police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect presented himself at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) at about 12pm today.
The suspect is believed to have been involved in the May 1 accident, which occurred at about 5.50am and involved a bicycle and a car along Jalan Stutong.

Alexson said the suspect later led police to the scene of the accident and to a workshop at Mile 4 here, where a Proton Satria believed to have been involved in the crash was found.
“A urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs,” he added.
The suspect is expected to be charged tomorrow (May 6) under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death, as well as under Section 52(2) of the same Act for failing to report the accident to police within 24 hours.
