KUCHING (Aug 28): The success of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in seizing 105.02kg of methamphetamine in Miri on Aug 24 has saved 525,100 potential drug users, said Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
She said from January to July this year, the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) successfully seized a total of 202.59kg of drugs and substances in compressed form, along with 8,486 pills, with an estimated value of RM14.3 million.
“During the same period last year, the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) recorded 226 cases involving 338 arrests for drug and substance supply and trafficking offences across Sarawak,” she told a press conference here yesterday.
She further congratulated the Sarawak NCID for the Miri success, saying this would cut off drug addicts from their supply.
“We hope all parties will continue to work together in combating drug abuse, the country’s number one enemy. We are working as a strong team to ensure that drug and substance issues are addressed in a holistic and integrated manner,” she added.
On Monday, Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata told a press conference here that police had dismantled one of the largest drug distribution syndicates in the state, following the arrest of four persons and seizure of RM3.3 million worth of methamphetamine.
He said the seizure was also the largest recorded in Sarawak this year, and second largest in Miri in the past 10 years.
