KUCHING, April 2: The federal government will tighten energy usage in public buildings to boost efficiency and curb wastage in the public sector as part of proactive measures to manage the impact of the global energy crisis triggered by the prolonged conflict in West Asia.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said among the measures to be implemented are setting air-conditioning temperatures at no lower than 24 degrees Celsius.

“Civil servants are also encouraged to wear attire suited to the local climate such as batik, corporate wear, or baju Melayu to reduce reliance on excessive cooling.

“This reflects the government’s commitment to lead by example in practising prudent energy consumption,” he was quoted by TVS as saying at a briefing on the global energy crisis in Putrajaya today.

Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), stressed that the government remains committed to providing regular and transparent updates.

“The public has the right to know the measures being taken, and the government will continue to communicate clearly without causing unnecessary concern.

“All parties are advised not to spread or share unverified information that could lead to confusion among the public,” he added.

Meanwhile, he assured that the country’s petroleum supply remains sufficient and stable.

“The government, together with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and industry players, is monitoring the supply chain on a daily basis.

“Contingency plans are also in place to ensure supply continuity under any circumstances, including sourcing from alternative markets in the event of prolonged disruptions,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
