KUCHING (Feb 10): The relationship between the federal and Sarawak governments remains good, as reflected in the ties between Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State Federal Relationship) acknowledged that while differences of opinion and occassional issues are inevitable, both leaders are experienced and prudent, capable of managing such challenges wisely.
“I think that’s normal in any relationship. But at the end of the day, what is important is that we put the interests of the country and Sarawak first.
“That’s what (truly) matters. I’m sure (given) the experience and wisdom of our leaders, they can navigate complications, issues and problems,” she told reporters when met at the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Women’s Affairs Bureau’s Ziarah Kasih programme at Rumah Seri Kenangan here today.
On strong emotions expressed by some members of Parliament of late over the legal tussle involving the authority over oil resources, Sharifah Hasidah said it is normal for individuals to express their feelings, but leaders must ultimately bring people together.
“Well, normal people have feelings, they express their views. It’s normal, but at the end of the day, I believe we always put Sarawak first; we always put the unity of the nation first,” she said.
“Leadership is about unity, putting Sarawak first, and ensuring the well-being of the nation. I am confident in the wisdom and experience of our leaders, especially our Premier, to steer matters in the best possible direction for Sarawak and Malaysia,” she added.
On Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) seeking clarity on the regulatory framework governing its operations in Sarawak, the deputy minister said it is best to allow the legal process to take its course without unnecessary public speculation.
She stressed that excessive comments, particularly on social media, should be avoided so as not to interfere with judicial proceedings.
“Let the court process continue until it is completed. Once the decision is made, then we can assess what actions and arrangements need to be taken. For now, it is best to allow the court to do its work,” she said
Also present was Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching Principal Dayang Siti Norshamira Awang Talip.
