BINTULU (Dec 21): The federal government has completed the construction of the Federal Shared Quarters here, marking a milestone in efforts to strengthen the welfare of civil servants in Sarawak.
The RM64.5-million project, owned by the Prime Minister’s Department, was implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia through its Special Project Team 2 and was successfully completed on Sept 2.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project’s completion reflects the Madani government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of civil servants.
“The welfare of civil servants remains a key foundation for delivering efficient, integrity-driven, and people-centric public services,” he said.
Speaking to reporters at the handing-over ceremony at the Federal Shared Quarters, Tanjung Kidurong on Saturday, Nanta said the project began on Oct 21, 2022, and was implemented under a design-and-build concept by the appointed contractor Saratech Sdn Bhd.
The project comprises 70 units of Class F quarters, 20 units of Class G quarters, a mechanical and electrical room, a guardhouse, a sewerage treatment plant, a playground, reticulation system, parking facilities, and built-in furniture.
Nanta also expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister’s Department for its trust and cooperation with the Ministry of Works and JKR, particularly in site supervision throughout the project.
“The experience gained from this construction project can serve as a useful reference for future development projects,” he said, adding that JKR has been instructed to continue monitoring the project and work closely with the contractor to promptly address any defects during the defect liability period in accordance with existing regulations.
