KIULU (Nov 28): Villagers throughout Kiulu have shared their wish for leadership continuity in the constituency, said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

The incumbent who wrapped up his campaign in the remote villages of Tudan and Gonipis, said he is confident voter support remains strong ahead of polling day tomorrow.

Joniston has held the seat since 2013.

Throughout the campaign, he said residents have reflected their trust in the development direction currently being pursued in Kiulu.

“In every meeting, the message we received was clear, the majority of Kiulu residents want continuity so that ongoing development will not be disrupted.

“The reception and support shown on the ground give confidence that our efforts are understood and felt by the people,” he said.

In Tudan, Joniston’s arrival was greeted by a motorcycle convoy from the main junction leading to the programme venue, organised by local residents as a display of grassroots support, particularly from the youth.

He noted that numerous initiatives had been implemented throughout the previous term, including the opening and upgrading of village and agricultural roads, the advancement of eco-tourism and data digitalisation, as well as the maintenance of basic facilities and community economic opportunities.

However, he stressed several areas still require strengthening, such as the construction of more agricultural roads, completion of the Kiulu Sub-District Office building, and improvements to internet connectivity.

“We have moved forward, but the work is not yet complete. My hope is to ensure Kiulu continues to progress, not start from zero,” he said.

Joniston added that the outcome of this election will determine whether current development efforts can continue, expressing confidence in voter support based on the consistent engagement of the community throughout the campaign.

“Kiulu will contribute to a major GRS victory to advance the State’s development agenda,” he added.

Joniston is in an eight-cornered fight for the seat, which has 17,191 registered voters.

In the 2020 state election, he polled 4,007 votes to win by a 1,221-vote majority.
