Festival celebrates Lepo’ Badeng community’s vibrant cultural traditions

BELAGA (Dec 30): The vibrant cultural traditions of the Lepo’ Badeng community were in the spotlight during the Lekopa and Lepo’ Badeng Cultural Festival held at Block L, Lepo’ Badeng Apau Koyan on Monday.

The event celebrated the richness and uniqueness of Orang Ulu heritage through traditional music, dance and age-old customs handed down across generations.

Organised annually in conjunction with the Christmas season, the festival served to promote the graceful Lekopa dance, cultural performances and artistic expressions, while deepening appreciation among youth and visitors alike.

With participation from every longhouse block in Lepo’ Badeng, the celebration not only entertained guests but also fostered unity, shared identity, creativity and pride in protecting cultural traditions that stand the test of time.

The programme also sought to preserve and promote traditional dances and heritage, cultivate cultural awareness and pride especially among young people, and strengthen community cooperation through cultural activities.

Gracing the celebration was Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.
