Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the project has received the green light from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who recognised the area’s untapped tourism potential.

“The Premier agreed to the Belawai Beach project because he knew that Belawai is one of the pristine areas that should be properly developed,” Len Talif told the D’Drift team during an interview at Kampung Rajang today.

“Besides Mukah and Kabong, Belawai is central to the central region. That is why he agreed for Belawai Beach to be developed into a proper facility, with emphasis on tourism,” he said.

Len Talif, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, informed that the project design has been completed and is expected to be tendered out in the coming months.

Among the key components is a two kilometre waterfront stretching along Belawai Beach, a golf course will be developed near the airport, accompanied by a new seven to eight storey hotel.

“These are the three main projects that the Premier has agreed to implement,” he said.

Meanwhile, the D’Drift team took the opportunity to visit Belawai Beach to get a closer look at the site earmarked for the upcoming upgrades.

Accompanied by Kampung Belawai penghulu Kalali Bin Klen, the team was shown the proposed location of the two kilometre waterfront as well as the stretch where the five kilometre wave breaker will be constructed offshore.

Kalali shared that efforts are already underway to preserve the beach’s natural appeal. The shoreline is cleaned regularly, with rubbish collected and properly disposed of to ensure the area remains pristine.

These developments and efforts align with growing tourism momentum in the area. Signature events such as Safari Memancing Tanjung Manis, which has officially entered the Sarawak tourism calendar this year, are expected to further position Belawai as a vibrant coastal destination. — DayakDaily
