PITAS (Feb 25): A flood relief mission serving 1,001 families across 21 kampungs in Bengkoka state constitency was successfully carried out on Tuesday through the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl and the strong collaboration of international partners, corporate sponsors, and local authorities.

Each affected household received one 10kg bag of rice and drinking water supplies.

The initiative was implemented to provide immediate food and clean water assistance to families impacted by recent flooding in the Bengkoka area.

This humanitarian effort was made possible through coordinated support from multiple stakeholders.
Rotary Club of Huimin, Taiwan contributed cash donations in support of the project.

Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl oversaw procurement of rice and drinking water, managed logistics coordination and secured the necessary permits to ensure smooth delivery and distribution.

Kota Box provided a 10-ton lorry for transportation and contributed 60 packets of milk for children in the affected villages while K2 sponsored 1,001 boxes of drinking water.

The donation was also made possible with government and community support.

One of the many families served was an elderly grandmother caring for her three grandchildren after floodwaters submerged their home. As she received the rice and water, her eyes filled with quiet relief. She shared that clean drinking water had been one of her greatest concerns over the past few days.

In another village, young children gathered curiously around the lorry, smiling shyly as volunteers unloaded supplies. The simple addition of milk packets brought visible joy — a small gesture that meant comfort during uncertain times.

“These moments remind us that beyond statistics — 1,001 families, 21 kampungs — are real lives navigating hardship with resilience and dignity,” said Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl President
Datuk Dr Jeanette Tambakau who led the distribution.

“It is a privilege to witness the courage and hope of these communities firsthand. At the same time, we are aware that many other villagers are still appealing for assistance, and we encourage all who are able to contribute to help us extend relief to those in urgent need,” said Jeanette.

This flood relief mission reflects Rotary’s enduring principle of Service Above Self — bringing together international goodwill, corporate social responsibility, and grassroots leadership to provide timely assistance to communities in need.

The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl extends its sincere appreciation to all partners, sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders who contributed their time, resources, and dedication to making this mission a success. They also appeal to the broader public and philanthropic organizations to join in supporting remaining communities still affected by the floods.
