Flood situation eases in Saratok as water levels begin to recede

Police personnel monitor flood-prone locations around Saratok, Kabong and Roban.

SARATOK (Jan 12): Several rivers and flood-prone locations within the jurisdiction of the Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD) have recorded receding water levels on Monday.

Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the situation was based on monitoring carried out by police personnel from 8am to 12 noon.

“The monitoring involved officers and personnel from IPD Saratok, Kabong Police Station and Roban Police Station.

“Among the locations inspected were Sungai Kriwn, Sungai Awik, Sungai Seblak in Kampung Melayu Roban, Kampung Wawasan Kabong, Kampung Sungai Benang Kabong, Kampung Baru Kabong, Kampung Alit, Kampung Nyabor and surrounding areas in Kabong,” he said.

Mathew said weather conditions during the monitoring period were reported to be cloudy.

He added that no flood evacuation operations have been reported so far.

However, local residents and school authorities have been advised to remain vigilant and to stay alert for any potential flooding, as weather conditions remain unpredictable.

“The Saratok IPD Operations Room and the Friends of Police team are on standby at all times to respond to any disaster should it occur,” he said.

Members of the public are also advised to call the Saratok District Control Centre (DCC) on 083-436102 if river water levels rise or in the event of any disaster in their respective areas.
