KOTA KINABALU (Feb 26): The number of flood victims in Sabah has risen to 4,458 people from 1,505 families, who are currently taking shelter at 22 temporary relief centres (PPS) today.

In a statement, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee said the floods are affecting five districts — Beaufort, Tenom, Membakut, Sipitang and Sook — involving 146 villages in total.

Tenom recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 2,406 people from 795 families across 46 villages. This was followed by Beaufort with 1,231 people from 384 families involving 58 villages.

Membakut recorded 321 victims from 125 families across 16 villages, Sipitang 421 victims from 176 families involving 22 villages, while Sook recorded 79 victims from 25 families across four villages.

Four PPS in Tenom reported an increase in evacuees — Tadika Desa Sapong (102 people from 30 families), Dewan Kebudayaan Gumisi Ulu (113 people from 29 families), Dewan Kg Pamaluyan (145 people from 45 families) and Dewan Terbuka Labut 2 (198 people from 44 families).

In Beaufort, Dewan Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Bisaya recorded an increase to 283 people from 92 families.

Of the total evacuees, 1,295 are men, 1,503 women, 822 boys and 838 girls.

The committee added that monitoring of the flood situation is being carried out by the Civil Defence Force (APM), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and other relevant agencies.
