The road situation in one of the villages affected by recent floods in Bingkor
KOTA KINABALU (Feb 5): In the wake of recent floods affecting villages in Bingkor, assemblyman Dato Mohd Ishak Ayub took a hands-on approach by visiting affected areas to assess damage and coordinate relief efforts.
The inspection covered Kampung Kota Ayangan, Kampung Bingkor Lama, Kampung Minansut, Kampung Tuntumulud, and Kampung Sandapak.
He identified issues including damaged village gateways, clogged drainage, water erosion on roads, and residential flooding caused by Sungai Kisaging overflowing due to blocked culverts.
Temporary repairs have been made, while long-term solutions — such as culvert upgrades and regular maintenance — are being planned in collaboration with agencies including the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), the Department of Environment (DoE), the Sabah Water Department (JANS), and local concessionaires.
Beyond infrastructure, Ishak’s team also focused on the human impact of the floods.
On Jan 4, representatives of his office visited families in Kampung Sandapak, Kampung Marampong, and Kampung Bingkor Lama who had lost loved ones. Bereavement assistance and messages of sympathy were delivered to support the families in their grief.
Through these combined efforts, Ishak aimed to demonstrate a leadership style that balances practical solutions with empathy, showing that responsibility extends beyond immediate crises to the well-being of the community in all aspects.
