KOTA KINABALU (Jan 14): Former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew has been appointed Honorary Adviser to the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) for the third consecutive term.
She received the letter of appointment from the President of SCCC Datuk Frankie Liew during a courtesy call by a nine-member delegation at Liew’s Legal Office, here, on Wednesday.
Liew has also been invited as one of the distinguished guests for the March 16 installation of the new SCCC Executive Committee for the 2025-2028 term at the Sabah Hakka Hall.
Also present were SCCC Vice-Presidents Ir. Ts. K.J. Tan and H.H. Chiew, and Committee Members Chin Hui Zhi, Yee Shi Ping, Chan Jun Git, Lucas Kwan, Cydia Liu and Leo Liew.
Briefing the Honorary Adviser on SCCC, Frankie said the Chamber has created a Business Matching & Investment Facilitation Department for its Chinese counterparts in the People’s Republic of China to explore trade and investment opportunities in Sabah during their exchange visits to the state.
“The department (helmed by Liu) will facilitate business matching sessions with the Chinese visitors,” he said.
Under the capable leadership of Frankie, Liew noted, SCCC is well-positioned to forge fruitful collaboration with the various Chinese provinces in the core areas of trade, agriculture, technology, cultural development and bilateral tourism.
“I am impressed with SCCC’s success in expanding its network in China by establishing liaison offices in Foshan, Guangzhou and Jilin, among other provinces, to boost trade, investment and collaboration between Sabah and China.
“With its growing visibility in China, the Chamber is increasingly gaining recognition among business companies and enterprises in the People’s Republic,” she said.
Since 2024 until last December, the SCCC has fostered exchange visits with provinces like Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Guizhou, Henan, Fujian and Shanghai to boost trade and investment, explore potential economic partnerships, and to promote cultural exchanges.
